Hydroelectric development in Québec

The total hydroelectric generating capacity available in Québec is around 47 330 MW. Some major water resources remain to be developed; their potential is estimated at 45 000 MW, of which around 20 000 MW is economically viable in the current context.

The Government has launched major hydroelectric projects totalling 4 500 MW. The projects will fully secure the electricity supply for all Quebecers, and allow Québec to regain its place on export markets.
