The forests are omnipresent in Québec.
Vast, majestic, interspersed with thousands of lakes and rivers, they
play a leading role in the economic, social and environmental sectors. They are of concern to all Québecers, and the government manages
them in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. This
ensures that the forests and their resources are protected and preserved,
in the best interests of present and future generations.
Responsible management is especially necessary because
the forest industry plays a vital role in the socio-economic
development of Québec and its regions. More than 250 municipalities
are thought to depend principally on the forests for their economic survival.
To stimulate this key sector in Québec’s economy, the government
has introduced a range of measures aimed at encouraging investments.
