How to Consult

The online Land Register of Québec is available to all, both private citizens and those who consult it as part of their professional duties. Before consulting the register it is a good idea to become familiar with procedures to be followed (for the Index of Immovables), as well as consultation methods and the current fee schedule.

Note that special conditions for registration of documents exist in the Land Register of Québec.

Information you’ll need for your consultation

Before starting to use the site, you should know the lot number and name of the cadastre for the property you are researching. You can obtain them from the municipality in question, which will use the property’s address to provide you with relevant data.

Many municipalities have already put their assessment rolls online. If the municipality concerned is not part of this list, consult the Répertoire des municipalités du Québec (Directory of Québec municipalities). To find out the registration division of the municipality or the amalgamated municipalities where the property is located, consult the list of municipalities (Word Format, 1.2 MB).

Equipment and tools you will need

To take full advantage of the site’s capability, you will need the basic computer hardware and software tools. For information on minimal requirements, click on Consultation Tools or familiarize yourself with the document Aide à la consultation available in French. It contains information on installing free software applications as well as advice and tips for those using the various consultation products and services available online.

How to access the online Land Register of Québec

  • For frequent use, open a client account

Opening a client account is recommended if you intend to use the site frequently. When you have an account, you will not need to enter information before each consultation session ,you can make modifications whenever you wish, and you can see your billing history at any time. To open an account, you will need to complete the form at the bottom of the home page of the online Land Register of Québec.
  • For occasional use

You may access information in the online Land Register of Québec without opening a client account, but you must use a credit card for payment and provide some information each time you begin a consultation session.

Note that when you choose this method, you will not receive a user code or password, and you will need to print your invoice before leaving the site. In addition, you will be asked to approve a $5 charge at the beginning of your work session. This is a credit card company preauthorization, and you will not be billed for it.
  • If you do not wish to pay by credit card

If you do not wish to use a credit card for payment, you will need to go to one of the 73 land registrar offices. You should know, however, that consulting documents in the land registrar office is much more cumbersome.
