Regional organization

The Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune (MRNF) operates the following regional services:

  • eleven general regional offices, providing services in the energy, wildlife, forests, mining and land sectors
  • six tree nurseries
  • three fish hatcheries

General regional offices

The creation of the general regional offices is intended to ensure high-quality service delivery to clients in all sectors through a single access point. This integrated management reflects the new governance paradigm at the Department, which is designed to give greater autonomy to regions and municipalities.

The general regional offices will help regional stakeholders take charge of land and natural resource development. In addition, they will propose wealth-creating regional projects and assist in their implementation, in keeping with the principles of sustainable development.

Tree nurseries

The tree nurseries are located at Saint-Modeste, Sainte-Luce, Normandin, Grandes-Piles, Berthier and Trécesson. In addition to traditional products, the MRNF nurseries produce bare-root and container seedlings, and special products based on techniques such as propagation by cuttings. They are also involved in a series of research activities focusing on seedling production and genetic improvements to forest tree species.

Fish hatcheries

The fish hatcheries are located at Tadoussac, Coaticook and Lac-des-Écorces. Each year, the MRNF helps re-stock a large number of waterbodies.
